Bet Overview
(Tick Market)
What will be the distance between two nominated horses in a race at the finish?
The maximum distances for the purpose of these bets will be 12 lengths in a Flat race and 15 lengths in a National Hunt race.
In this market whole points are divided into tenths. If you go high (buy) for £10 a point then it will be £1 a tenth.
Example
In the 2000 Oaks, we pitted Petrushka against Whitefoot in a match bet.
We made Petrushka favourite to finish ahead of Whitefoot by between 0 - 1 length.
If you thought Petrushka was a far classier horse you would go high (buy) with Petrushka over Whitefoot at 1 length.
In the end Whitefoot trailed in 12 lengths behind.
Had you bought Petrushka at 1 length, you would have won 11 times your stake.
11 x £5 (50p a tick) = £55
Had you sold Petrushka at 0 you would have lost 12 times your stake.
12 x £5 (50p a tick) = -£60
N.B.: It does not matter where the horses finish in the context of the race; it is the distance between them that counts.
